Skinimalism...what?

With so many skincare options available and endless information at our fingertips, it’s hard to know how best to care for our skin. Is it just me, or does it feel like new ingredients and products promising results for common skin ailments hit the market every few weeks? Okay, maybe once a year, but you get the idea.
I have tried my fair share of skincare products over the years, including multi-step systems. Without fail, I always come back to the basics. The choice is partly driven by time. Three kids and a busy work life leave little time for anything extra.
But, guess what? The basics work. Cleanse, tone, hydrate, repeat.
Interestingly, it looks like some experts agree and predict a minimalist approach to skincare (dubbed skinimalism) as a trend for this year. According to one expert in a Vogue article from January, using more products doesn’t guarantee results and can sometimes have the opposite effect. Similarly, another expert describes the importance of quality over quantity.

A few quick tried-and-true ways to keep skin looking its best:
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Yes, add moisture directly to your skin. But don’t forget about hydrating from the inside out. Drink water!
- Create a routine. Practice your skincare routine twice daily. Something I personally live by: never go to bed with makeup on.
- Exercise. The increased blood flow leaves skin looking radiant.
